Finland's National Institute of health and welfare announced Thursday that samples from 28 sewage treatment plants will be taken from that day to reflect the spread of the new coronavirus in Finland by detecting the relevant substances of the new coronavirus in sewage.
According to the National Broadcasting Corporation of Finland, the population of the relevant areas of these sewage treatment plants accounts for about 60% of the total population of Finland. Tarya pitcaine, a senior researcher at the National Institutes of health and welfare, said that by detecting the amount of RNA in sewage, the virus's spread in the corresponding areas could be reflected.
Previously, Finland used similar sewage testing methods to determine the spread of poliovirus in the country, and also used this method to learn about the local use of some illegal drugs.
According to the data released by the National Institute of health and welfare of Finland, as of the afternoon of April 4, there were 5327 confirmed cases, 240 deaths and 3500 cured cases in Finland.
