According to Xinhua news agency, clean energy power generation accounted for more than half of Germany's electricity consumption in the first quarter of 2020, a record high, according to the German energy and water industry association and other institutions.
According to a statement issued on April 1 by the German energy and water industry association and the research center of solar energy and hydrogen energy in Baden Wurttemberg state, according to the calculation of the two institutions, in the first quarter of 2020, photovoltaic power generation, wind power generation, hydropower and other clean energy power generation in Germany accounted for about 52% of the total electricity consumption in the same period, reaching the highest level ever. Previously, clean energy power generation accounted for 44.4% of total electricity consumption in the first quarter of 2019.
Statistics show that in the first quarter of 2020, Germany's clean energy generating capacity is 77 billion kwh, an increase of about 10 billion kwh over the same period of 2019.
According to the German energy and Water Industry Association, the large increase in clean energy power generation in the first quarter of 2020 is the result of a combination of climate and other factors. According to statistics of the Federal Network Administration of Germany, on February 16, clean energy provided nearly 93% of the country's electricity consumption due to sunny and windy weather throughout Germany. In addition, in novel coronavirus pneumonia, the total consumption of Germany in the first quarter of 2020 was 1% lower than that in the same period in 2019, which also increased the proportion of clean energy to electricity.
