The Ministry of science and technology recently released the global ecological environment remote sensing monitoring 2020 annual report, which includes three topics: "Antarctic ice sheet change", "global staple food and oil crop production and food security situation" and "global urban expansion and land cover change".

The topic of "Antarctic ice sheet change" points out that since the beginning of this century, the surface melting of Antarctic ice sheet is remarkable, and the melting area accounts for 19% of the total area of Antarctic ice sheet; the melting of Antarctic Peninsula is the most severe, and the increase of winter foehn event and abnormal circulation phenomenon cause the melting trend to increase. According to the special topic "global production and food security situation of staple grain and oil crops", the overall situation of production of bulk grain and oil crops will be good from 2019 to 2020, but regional extreme climate and agricultural disasters will occur frequently in 2020, which will have a certain impact on global grain and oil crop production. The topic "global urban expansion and land cover change" points out that the global urban expansion has been accelerating since this century.
