Xinhua news agency, Geneva, April 25 (reporter Liu Qu) on April 26, the world intellectual property organization called for green innovation to deal with climate change. Climate change has a profound impact on all people, and innovation in the field of green technology will be the key to successfully address this global challenge.
The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) analyzed the international patent applications submitted in the fields of alternative energy production, energy-saving technology, green transportation and nuclear power generation through its Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT).
The analysis indicates that the number of PCT green patent applications has declined since 2013. According to the number of international patent applications, the growth of environmental protection technology innovation in 2019 is very small, and the overall growth of green innovation has declined by 18% since 2013.
In 2019, more than 76% of PCT green applications come from Japan, China, the United States, Germany and South Korea in the top five. Among them, the growth of PCT applications in most green energy technologies in China is extraordinary. In recent years, the number of green transportation technology patent applications is in the forefront of the world.
Francis Gaorui, director general of the world intellectual property organization, said that global policy makers, enterprises, academic institutions and inventors should work together to create a wave of green technology innovation that meets the requirements of the times.
According to the World Intellectual Property Organization's global innovation index 2018: world energy, innovation is important, the international energy agency believes that global energy demand will increase by 30% by 2040. At present, the global renewable energy supply is 15%. By 2050, about 85% of the global primary energy must be provided by renewable energy such as solar energy, wind energy and geothermal energy. Only by promoting innovation and supporting the development of a strong intellectual property system that can stimulate and promote innovation can we develop a clean energy system that meets the above needs, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote economic growth.
