China Environmental News: Amsterdam, the kingdom of bicycles, recently launched a huge green travel plan.

Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands, plans to ban any fuel vehicles from entering by 2030, CNN reported. To achieve this goal, Amsterdam will speed up infrastructure construction and provide power for electric vehicles in the next 10 years. From next year, some diesel cars will be banned from downtown Amsterdam. From 2022, only buses and coaches with electric or hydrogen powered engines can enter the city center.

According to the plan of building "the city of electric transportation" released by Amsterdam municipal government, by 2030, all vehicles in Amsterdam will be electrified on the road, and all ships on the water will be driven by electric power, so the traffic and transportation of the whole city will reach zero emission. The plan of "the city of electric transportation" aims to solve the problem of air pollution. In 2018, the level of toxic air pollution in Amsterdam has exceeded the European Union standard.

The government of Amsterdam believes that fuel transportation is the main source of air pollutants. To this end, the Dutch Health Council called on the government to develop plans to address the large amount of NO2 and particulate emissions in crowded cities such as Amsterdam and Rotterdam. In order to achieve the goal of "the city of electric transportation", the key work of Amsterdam is to build infrastructure. According to media reports, Amsterdam will add at least 23000 new electric vehicle charging stations.

Although climate activists are mostly in favor of the move, some groups are concerned that the ban will have a negative impact on poor families who cannot afford electric cars, the report said.

At the beginning of 2019, according to the license plate registration calculation of RDW, the number of electric vehicles in the whole Netherlands is close to 45000, doubling compared with the same period last year. At present, the Netherlands is the second largest country in the world in terms of electric vehicle ownership.
